If we stop acquiring, simplify our lives, a bad thing? Is the only way to continue growth as a species to consuming and destroying. There is an awakening going on and its not about stepping backwards but rather turning around to walk. Its forward progress.
180 Degrees South - a great documentary that sparked this post!
Adventure, travel, examine life and find what matters to you. Be aware (consciousness around your impact) and do something for the world which we were given the opportunity to live, and grow.

My favorite thought provoking quotes from the film (a few from young travelers exploring life, some from wise old men):
"The best journeys help you answer the questions that when you started you didn't think to ask."
"Greatest fear of all is the fear of the unknown."
"Man doesn't learn much from history and thats the biggest lesson of history."
"Closed off from our reco-system, more closed off and don't realise how much we depend on it - physically, psychologically, and the damage is done in remote places, done by over consumption somewhere else. It is easily done with you dont' directly see the impact."
"Easy to add stuff, hard to simplify"
"Lead an examined life"
"We think we can't go back (digress) but what if you turn around 180 degrees and take a step, then its not backwards right. Back can be progress."
"Can't make a flawed system work."
"Return a little different."
In, 1952 CS Lewis says it well, 50 years later I think it is setting in and big change takes time. But the time is now people, mother earth can only take so much and our faith in a species needs a restart.
We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.
